iDome Presentation

To really get the feeling of the new Square Kilometre Array project, GMG has created a 180Ă—180 degree movie of the proposed development.

In partnership with CVA, Scitech, UWA, and the SKA Taskforce, we have produced a computer graphics movie explaining the big ideas behind the SKA project and how this will take us in to the future.

This was shown recently on a portable vertical dome screen. A second version has been produced for screening at the Horizon dome in Perth, WA.

In addition to this project, we also created a Flash presentation for a conference in Perth discussing the SKA project.

Big ideas. Big screen.

Overview

From the biological interactions between plants and insects, the zoology of nocturnal animals, the horticultural know how that goes into growing giant vegetables, the mathematical genius needed to lay pavers and the feats of construction that can go on in the shed, the backyard is full of science.

Scitech has created a travelling back garden, complete with garden gnomes, ants and a giant spider that will engage visitors with science and technology and enable them to continue discovering after they leave the exhibition.

Scitech is Australia’s leading designer and manufacturer of interactive travelling science exhibits and exhibitions. With 20 years experience, and currently seven exhibitions touring nationally and internationally, Scitech’s experience and knowledge of both content and robust exhibit construction is second to none.

Drawing on a team of researchers, educationalists and designers, Amazing Backyard Adventures has been created to exacting standards and has been extensively tested with visitors at our science centre before embarking on a touring program.

Bee’s Eye View

Take a look at the garden through the eyes of a bee or a dog. Using special lenses, see how different creatures see the world around us.

Our modelers created a backyard model with different texture sets depending on the animal that we are simulating. Files were supplied for the Scitech game engine.

Walk through the Seasons

Plants grow very slowly. Take awalk through our digital garden and observe plants growing in super time and see the changes that usually take months or years to happen.

We modeled the back yard and populated it with various plants. Using the latest simulation software, we grew the plants over four seasons, animated the clouds and sun, and rendered out video that could be scrubbed through as the visitor walked on the treadmill.

Guinness Plants Game Show

Do you have what it takes to grow a giant pumpkin? Step on down and try your hand to create the world’s biggest vegetable in our specially designed vegetable patch.

Based off the Photoshop files, we assembled the game and designed the multiplayer game logic. We also supplied custom hardware that allowed the game to interface with the physical exhibit.

Nectar Collector

Jump on board the magnificent flying bee for a bee’s eye view of the garden. Try your luck at pollinating flowers, collecting pollen for honey production and seeing if you can hack it in the cutthroat world of bees.

Again, we created the 3d model of the back yard that the player can fly through and supplied the model and textures ready for use in the game engine.

Plant vs Insect

Build your own plant with specialised defense mechanisms to protect it from specific predators and examine the plant-animal interactions involved.

This was also based on the Photoshop files. Game logic and hardware supplied by GMG.

Overview

Welcome to the wacky, wonder-filled world of larrikinism: the Aussie Thong Family — a Red Dog Bites creation of irreverence, complete disregard for pretension and propriety, all with a self-deprecating humour.

The Aussie Thong Family embody all that is great about the Australian psyche and Aussie lifestyle. They are in full bloom of glorious eccentricity going about reclaiming and celebrating the Aussie spirit. They also capture a reassuring sense of belonging and the spark of pioneering that runs in our veins.

The Aussie Thong Family has buckets of uniqueness and individualism which is simply so very Australian. And no points for guessing what they wear on their feet!

You will see them everywhere — as life size costume characters, on clothing, linen, mugs and gifts, to downloads, music, website and TV and animation. So be sure to give them the thumbs up, which is exactly what they would do if they met you.

Brief

The boys (Keith and Tristan) of Red Dog Bites wanted a site that captured the fun of the concept, used all of the multimedia that they had at their disposal, and left visitors (and investors) wanting more!

We were given complete freedom to develop the site and pack it with ideas and toys — we even got to design the town. Key features are:

  • plank preloader
  • Meg’s playlist of Kevin Bloody Wilson’s songs
  • eyeball news
  • stretchy rag dolls
  • Aussie slang video preloader

This project was a huge amount of fun and was a key part of their arsenal to securing further development of the animation series.

Cheers lads!
